RAFA SAYS GOODBYE TO MIAMI

2nd of April

Unfortunately, Rafa’s run at the Miami Masters Series event, second MS 100 tournament of the season, has come to an end at the hands of Juan Martin del Potro in 3 amazing sets, 6-4 6-3 y 6-7(3).

Rafael, who has beaten Juan Martin in 4 of the 5 times they’ve faced each other, played aggressively and effectively for most of the match, however, that seemed to have taken out a lot more energy than what he would have liked, and at the end, sadly, it wasn’t enough to make it to the semi-finals.

The number 6 seed argentine made the Australian Open champ work hard for 3 hours. From the beginning of the first set, Rafa had to defend himself with all he could and Juan Martin was only too happy to capitalize on one break of serve and close out the first set 6-4.

In the second set Rafa gave Del Potro a spoon full of his own medicine, coming back from a break down and converting two breaks of serve which were more than enough for him to even out the match at one set a piece.

The third and last set was a contest for the fit and strong, with both guys playing for their lives. At first, it looked as if Rafa was simply too good for the number 7 seed as he rocketed to a 3-0 lead, however, minutes later and out of nowhere, Juan Martin came back and levelled the score 3-3.

From there, this nail-biting marathon, saw both players reach the tie-breaker where Juan Martin del Potro came out on top.

Thank you everyone for supporting Rafa during this tournament, as always, he really appreciates it!
